Mineral water that is high in silicon can significantly reduce the aluminum in the body, according to Professor Christopher Exley of Keele University. Aluminum is a neurotoxin linked to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. In a 2012 study, Keele found that drinking a liter of mineral water every day can reduce cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's, as reported by the Daily Mail.
A 2009 study published by The National Center for Biotechnology Information found that the calcium and magnesium found in mineral water can have the most positive effects on the body, similar to the effect that milk has due to the abundance of mineral content. Other minerals that are commonly found in mineral water include iodine, lithium and fluorine; these make up the most important trace elements found in mineral water. This study also looked at the effect that sodium in mineral water has on blood pressure.
