Recovery time varies from person to person, but according to the American Heart Association, the average recovery time after aortic valve replacement surgery is four to eight weeks. Patients receiving minimally invasive procedures have shorter recovery times.
Immediately after surgery, aortic valve replacement patients are encouraged to breathe deeply and begin conducting basic self-care tasks. They are encouraged to eat and drink normally and to walk for exercise. Within just days to weeks following valve replacement surgery, patients regain energy and return to their normal activity as they feel able. The American Heart Association suggests that patients should see their doctor for a postoperative visit four to six weeks following surgery.
