Bellafill, an improved version of Artefill, costs $1,000 per syringe as of 2015, according to the Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery. The FDA approved Bellafill for use in the United States in 2006. Artefill, originally called Artecoll, was first available in Europe and Canada, states DocShop.
Bellafill is an injectable gel filler that consists of millions of synthetic microspheres in a purified bovine collagen suspension, explains the Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery. When injected into a wrinkle, Bellafill stimulates the body to form its own collagen, which combines with the microspheres to fill the wrinkle permanently. Treatments take 15 to 20 minutes, and two treatment sessions spaced three to six weeks apart may be necessary to provide the desired result.
