Astra Tech dental implants are reliable for daily use, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information. Korean researchers conducted a study on 98 patients treated with Astra Tech implants from May 2004 to March 2009 and concluded that the short-term reliability of the implants was 100 percent.
Dental implants replace tooth roots and provide a foundation for permanent and removable replacement teeth, explains WebMD. During dental implant surgery, a dentist places a small metal post into the bone socket of the missing tooth. The jawbone of the patient grows around the implant and anchors it in the jaw. After six to 12 weeks, the dentist attaches a connector post to the metal post and installs a new tooth on the connector post.
