There are a wide variety of curl exercises that focus on arm muscles, primarily the biceps. These are generally done with dumbbells in each hand. They are held at about waist level and raised to chest level if standing or lying, and they are raised to head level if seated. Some examples of these dumbbell lifts include bicep curls, hammer curls, EZ-Bar curls, incline curls, preacher curls, Zettman curls and drag curls.
Exercises that focus on the triceps include pushdowns, the seated or lying triceps press, EZ-Bar triceps extensions, overhead extensions with a rope, kickbacks and dips.
Workouts that target the deltoids include the front dumbbell raise, seated dumbbell lateral raise, seated dumbbell press and the bent-over dumbbell lateral raise.
A number of compound exercises that work other body muscle groups are also very effective for arms. Some examples to try are push-ups, kettlebell swings, pull-ups, deadlifts, chest and bench presses, and barbell squats.
