Amoxicillin, Biaxin, Flagyl and tetracycline are all antibiotics recommended by WebMD to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori. Treatment usually includes two of these antibiotics in combination with an acid reducer and a bismuth compound.
When stomach ulcers are caused by Helicobacter pylori, a combination of two antibiotics is used as this is more effective against resistant strains, according to WebMD. Pre-packaged drug combinations on the market include Pylera, Helidac and Prevpac. These treatments are effective in 70 to 85 percent of cases. Acid reducers are added to these antibiotics to reduce the symptoms associated with ulcers, while bismuth compounds are included for individuals who have chronic peptic ulcer disease.
