An air cast is a cast made of a rigid or semi rigid shell, the interior being made of a series of overlapping air cells that inflate to hold the extremity secure and prevent movement. Air casts are also known as walking casts because they are easier to move around in than a traditional plaster cast.
An air cast is often preferred to a plaster cast because it can be easily removed and put back into place at need. The air cast can be adjusted by using either an externally connecting hand pump or an integrated inflation system. The light construction combined with a rubber sole allows for a more natural gait.
