AdvoCare may temporarily reduce body weight, but the AdvoCare plan may not be safe. The first "cleanse" phase consists of consuming laxatives and energy drinks. These supplements cause the body to lose water, and therefore lose weight, but they may cause severe electrolyte disturbances as well.
The stimulants in energy drinks can cause increases in blood pressure. The combination of stimulants and laxatives may cause heart problems in some individuals.
The second phase of the AdvoCare plan uses meal replacement drinks and a meal plan. The meal replacement drinks contain many unhealthy ingredients. The meal plan is deficient in fruit and dairy and cannot be considered to meet accepted standards of a balanced, complete diet.
