A Providence MyChart account allows Providence patients to access and manage their medical information conveniently online. Patients can view test results, access health records and resources, request prescription refills, schedule appointments, and communicate securely with their medical team, according to Providence Health and Services.
Providence Health and Services states that there is no fee for Providence patients to sign up for a MyChart Account. Patients who wish to sign up for the service are issued an activation code during an office visit. The code enables users to log into the site and create a unique user ID and password to begin accessing the online services. Patients who are not given an activation code during a clinic visit may request one by calling their primary care center.
Most test results are released to MyChart one to three business days after the clinic visit, according to Providence Health and Services. The information comes directly from the electronic medical records at the doctor's office. Not all medical information is available for viewing online. Tests of a highly sensitive nature, for example, are not made available through MyChart and must be discussed directly with the primary care provider.
The MyChart website is owned and operated by Providence Health and Services and is compliant with all state and federal laws regarding online privacy and protection. As of 2015, the site uses 128-bit SSL encryption to protect each MyChart session. Patient information cannot be accessed on the MyChart site without the patient's password, and all communications are performed only while logged into the site.
