Phlebitis, if of a superficial nature, can be treated with alternative medical treatments like acupuncture. Deep phlebitis, which is much more serious and more dangerous, as WebMD explains, affects the internal veins of the legs and may even require a short hospital stay to treat.
According to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, acupuncture is a Chinese remedy thought to remove blockages in the body and restore normal circulation of Qi to improve overall health. Suffers of phlebitis, states Hong Jin, are ideal candidates for acupuncture since the treatment claims to re-distribute abnormal blood flow and corrects poor circulation.
WebMD lists more traditional treatments for superficial phlebitis including anti-inflammatory drugs, compression socks and increased walking if the patient is able.
