The abbreviation ABC in first aid stands for airway, breathing and circulation. ABC is commonly used with DR to form DR ABC, an acronym used for easy remembrance of the necessary first aid steps.
The acronym DR ABC is necessary in helping a person to carry out the necessary steps in case there is an injury. “D” stands for danger and it involves looking out for potential dangers in an area. “R” represents response and it entails the measures a person is going to take in case of an injury. One should ensure that the airway is open to allow breathing, and he or she should check how the victim is breathing. If the victim is not breathing properly, a person needs to perform 30 circulations or compressions.
