Is 96.5 Considered Too Low for Body Temperature?

Although 96.5 degrees Fahrenheit falls in the low end of normal body temperature range, it is not considered too low, according to Mayo Clinic. Normal body temperature for adults can be as low as 95 degrees Fahrenheit, according to WebMD.

Normal body temperature varies from person to person due to age, gender, time of day and method of temperature taking, observes WebMD. Alcohol consumption, metabolic disorders and exposure to cold can lower body temperature, and factors such as ovulation and menstruation can also lower body temperature in women.

When body temperature falls below 95 degrees Fahrenheit, it is called hypothermia, notes Mayo Clinic. A body temperature in this range may cause shivering, dizziness and increased heart rate in the mildest form of hypothermia.
