Italy introduced a divorce law in 1970, the United Kingdom in 1973, India in 1955, South Africa in 1979 and Brazil in 1977. Most countries had had legislation regarding divorce prior to the laws that are in place today. The Civil Code or Family Code legislates divorce in many countries.
