Democrat incumbent Governor Dannel P. Malloy was the winner of the 2014 Connecticut governor's race. Governor Malloy ran against Republican candidate Tom Foley, narrowly edging him out in a close race. Malloy and Foley also ran against each other in 2010, when Malloy beat Foley by an even smaller margin.
The Hartford Courant cited an unofficial count of the secretary of state's office, which said that around 55 percent to 60 percent of registered voters turned up at the polls to vote. The Courant also stated that Governor Malloy beat Foley by about 3 percentage points, or just over 25,000 votes.
