John Cornyn was first elected to the senate in 2002 and was at the end of his second term in 2014. He won re-election for his third term in November 2014. A resident of San Antonio, Cornyn has served on the Senate Finance and Judiciary Committees. Before election to the senate, he held positions as a district judge, a Texas Supreme Court justice and the state attorney general.
Before Ted Cruz won election to the senate in 2012, he had never been elected to public office. A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, he was the first Hispanic to serve as Solicitor General of Texas.Learn more about Branches of Government
