United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) establishment numbers are numbers given by the USDA to inspection facilities for all meat, poultry and egg products. Per the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the Poultry Products Inspection Act and the Egg Products Inspection Act, a mark of inspection with the inspector's establishment number must be on all applicable containers.
Typically, a seal for meat will have the establishment number begin with "EST." A seal for poultry begins with the letter "P;" for eggs, the word "Plant" is used. A complete list of these establishment numbers, along with the company, address, grant date, activities and DBAs it corresponds to, is available for download on the USDA website. It is updated monthly.
