Transitional housing provides veterans with stable housing and assists them in their re-entry into the civilian workforce. Transitional housing is typically available for homeless veterans or those with disabilities or mental illnesses such as post-traumatic stress disorder.
Transitional housing programs also provide assistance with obtaining proper education, employment, rehabilitation services and, in some cases, direct financial compensation. The goal of these programs is to ease the difficult transition back to civilian life, as some veterans suffer from mental disorders, drug use and alcoholism. Programs offer assistance on a temporary basis, but veterans with more serious conditions may be eligible for permanent benefits through the government.
