As of October 2015, there is no toll free number for Directory Assistance. Calls to Directory Assistance to lookup a residential or business phone number or to ask for reverse lookup costs up to around $2. Some phone companies, such as AT&T, give Directory Assistance exceptions to customers with disabilities.
To qualify to the Directory Assistance exception, customers should get in touch with AT&T's National Center for Customers with Disabilities to submit their applications. Persons with visual, physical or cognitive disabilities may qualify for exemptions. Upon receiving exemptions, customers are no longer billed for 411 Directory Assistance and call completion. They also get up to four lookup requests per call. Persons with disabilities may also apply for data plan exemptions.
