Most polling places in the United States open between 6 and 7 a.m. local time. Polling place opening times do vary from state to state, but more than 40 states schedule polls to open at or before 7 a.m.
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission offers an online cheat sheet with polling places for most states, as well as for the District of Columbia. The vast majority of states' polling places are open before 7 a.m., but Arkansas polling places open at 7:30 a.m., Idaho and Nevada polling places open at 8 a.m., and Vermont polling places open at 10 a.m.
Voters can check the hours of their specific polling places by directly contacting the local board of elections. Some local board of elections websites may feature an online polling place locator that includes opening times.
