Perino joined the George W. Bush administration as a spokesperson at the U.S. Department of Justice in 2001, where she served the administration for seven years. Perino is an alumna of Colorado State University-Pueblo, where she studied mass communications. Upon graduation, she enrolled in a master's degree program in public affairs reporting at the University of Illinois-Springfield.
