SSI requires a change of address form within 10 days after the month the change occurs. Regardless of whether a person is receiving Social Security benefits or not, everyone must report a change of address.
If a person does not report the address change in time, he may not receive his full benefit amount or may receive too much and find himself having to pay some back. The Social Security Administration can also penalize someone for not reporting the change in time, and that penalty is taken out of the monthly benefit payments.
A person can file a change of address form with the Social Security Administration online through ssa.gov, by calling the Social Security's toll-free number, or by visiting his local Social Security Administration office.
