Social Security coverage of dental services differs by program, and medical program eligibility is determined by age and income. Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program cover dental services for children, but adult coverage depends on state guidelines.
As of July 2015, Social Security Disability Insurance provides coverage for dental services up to maximum of $1000. Medicare only pays for dental services that are required to protect the overall health of an individual, such as procedures related to oral cancer or a surgery that is needed to repair a jaw or face fracture. Dental exams and dental prosthetics are explicitly excluded. Medicaid gives states the ability to determine which dental services are covered for adults, but most states provide coverage for adults who need emergency dental treatment.
