To help companies comply with the Employment Standards Act, and to help workers understand its provisions, the Ministry of Labour provides several type of publications and services, such as posters, fact sheets, online tools and calculators. Officers with the agency make proactive visits to job sites to inspect payroll operations and to view daily operations procedure to ensure companies are in compliance, and may remove records for further inspection. These officers may serve notice prior to visiting a business location, but this is not a requirement of the Employment Standards Act.
The Ministry of Labour investigates complaints from employees concerning workplace standards violations, and provides claim forms through which employees can ask for missing wages. If the parties are unable to resolve their dispute once paperwork has been shared by both sides, the Ministry of Labour opens an investigation.
