The state of Texas' SNAP Food Benefits program requires general information on current money holdings, income, past and current benefits received, expenses, and previous medical history in order to process an application. In addition, personal information including name, address, date of birth and Social Security number are necessary in order to verify an applicant's identity and ensure his eligibility for the SNAP Food Benefits program.
To help determine eligibility, a short "Should I Apply?" questionnaire is available on the Texas Health and Human Services Commission's YourTexasBenefits.com website. This questionnaire asks similar questions to those asked in the SNAP Food Benefits application and can provide information on other benefits for which an applicant may also be eligible.
A SNAP Food Benefits application is also available on the YourTexasBenefits website. After setting up an online account, the applicant must fill out and send in the completed application. Following confirmation of the application, eligible applicants may be able to begin taking part in the SNAP Food Benefits program as early as the next day.
For those who do not have access to a computer or the Internet, a SNAP Food Benefits program application may also be submitted in-person at a local Texas Health and Human Services Commission Community Partner or by dialing a toll-free number during workday hours.
