Started in 2006, Red Friday or Red Shirt Friday is a movement to show support for U.S. military troops stationed overseas. Participants commit to wear a red shirt every Friday until all American troops are returned home.
Red Shirt Friday has members who support wartime efforts and those who disagree with U.S. military involvement overseas. It is not a political organization; it only claims to support the troops involved in each military effort outside the United States. Although it is not necessary for participation, shirts made specifically for Red Friday events typically have a U.S. flag, bald eagle or yellow ribbon on them.
