Full Answer

Politics is essentially the art and science of governing, and the actions performed by the government body in association to the ruling over the people. Although, the words are not to be used as interchangeable. Government is used in the sense of a body that prescribes the rules and regulations pertaining to governing a country. Politics is used in the sense of a branch of knowledge that deals with affairs of state. The government is a group of people, while politics is more of an idea.

Another major difference between the two is that the government is run by a select group of people, and citizens are not often involved in the affairs. Little information about the workings of the government is released, and only those within have any pull over what decisions on made. However, anyone may get involved in politics, and what is going on within the country politically is open for citizens to observe and take part in.
