What Do Political Parties Do?

Political parties play a large role in the government by supporting candidates and supporting certain policies. The parties offer candidates based on who they believe represent their views.

Political parties began developing as early as the 1600s, though they were not as organized as the parties in modern society. Political parties throughout history have aimed to achieve power, and they do this through campaigns and putting party members into state and federal elections for public office positions. Political parties often express their views in regards to education, war and taxes in order to gain the support of the citizens of the United States.
