Marine Corps Base, or MCB, Camp Lejeune, which was officially opened in 1942, is a 236-square mile area in Jacksonville in Onslow County, North Carolina. The base, which is the place where marines are trained for combat, includes Mainside, Courthouse Bay, the Great Sandy Run Area, Camp Geiger, Montford Point and the Rifle Range Area. The New River divides the site into two huge areas.
MCB Camp Lejeune was named after Lieutenant General John Lejeune, who served with the Marine Corps for over 40 years. Named "the greatest of all Leathernecks," he received various prestigious awards, such as the Navy's Distinguished Service Medal.Learn more about Military
