Phone calls with an 877 area code can come from anywhere in the United States. The area code 877 is one of six non-geographic area codes in the United States that are used for toll-free calls.
Other non-geographic area codes in the United States used for toll-free calls include 800, 844, 855, 866 and 888. As of 2015, area code 844 remains the most recent toll-free code to be implemented, having been introduced on Dec. 7, 2013. These area codes are often used for call-in services, such as infomercials and advice hotlines. AT&T once served as the exclusive provider of toll-free numbers, but this arrangement ended in 1984.
