Oklahoma state law forbids body piercing, including belly button piercings, for people under 18 years of age unless they have permission from a parent or legal guardian. Individual piercing studios may follow even more stringent piercing guidelines or may require photo identification as evidence of age.
The state can punish those supplying piercings to minors in violation of the Oklahoma statute with jail sentences, fines or both. The statute applies to all types of piercings except single earlobe piercings, including ear rims, noses, eyebrows, belly buttons, nipples and genitalia. Similar regulations apply to piercings in most other states. The Oklahoma statute for tattoos is stricter than the law for piercings, forbidding minors from getting tattoos regardless of parental permission.
