While traffic tickets in New York may be more costly than other states, they are not among the most expensive in the country. Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire and North Carolina carry the heaviest fines for speeding tickets, according to Forbes.
Motorists who contravene traffic law in the Empire State are, however, more likely to be pulled over and ticketed than in most other states. Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, California and Texas are the five most "ticket-happy" states, explains insurance company Esurance.
Up 41 million drivers receive speeding tickets annually, paying out more than $6 billion in fines, indicates data obtained by Statistic Brain.
