The most notable people in the 2016 Ohio Senate race are incumbent Republican Senator Rob Portman and former Ohio governor, Democrat Ted Strickland. Strickland also limited increases of tuition fees during his time as governor and advanced educational standards in primary and secondary schools. As a congressman, he helped to safeguard veterans benefits and to obtain federal funding for Ohio's infrastructure and economic development.
Rob Portman was elected United States Senator for Ohio in 2010 with a margin of 57 percent, after promising voters to create jobs and improve the economy. In his first term, he authored the Senate Republican Jobs Plan to create jobs nationwide. Some of his other causes include ending human trafficking and reducing abuse and exploitation around the world.
Other notable candidates in the 2016 Ohio Senate race include Democrat P.G. Sittenfeld, a member of the Cincinnati City Council, and Republican Governor John Kasich.
