A stamp is not required to return a mail-in ballot at a drop box location or van. If a ballot is being returned at the post office, a single first-class stamp is required.
Ballots are generally mailed to voters 20 days prior to election day and individuals can return them to a ballot drop box or van free of charge. States that provide ballot drop boxes have a listing of all drop box locations as well as contact information on the mailed ballot. Ballots are securely transported from the drop box location or van via a chain of custody method to ensure none of the ballots are tampered with before processing at an election facility. No ballot is accepted after 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
