The exact documents needed to apply for SNAP may differ for each office. Documents that are generally accepted included a state-issued driver's license, work ID, birth certificate, voter registration or documents that relate to health benefit enrollment. Documents that prove residency usually include utility bills, a voter registration card or receipts for rent payments.
Applicants also need to provide documents that support income, such as a statement of pay or a pay stub from an employer. A W-2 tax form, income tax forms or account records that detail earnings from self-employment may also suffice. Some office may require proof of unearned income, such as child support agreements, an unemployment award letter or another type of benefit, or bank statements. Documentation that relates directly to social security benefits or property taxes may also be acceptable. Generally, this documentation should be provided with the application, but some offices may accept the documents up to 30 days after the application for benefits has been submitted.Learn more about Social Services
