Basic Navy training for enlisted recruits takes place at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center north of Chicago, Illinois. Training at this center lasts from seven to nine weeks, with recruits spending that time attending classes, working on marching, drilling and other physical conditioning, and learning how to use weaponry.
Those who wish to join the Navy should speak with a recruiter to learn what jobs within the military organization best suit their individual strengths and the educational requirements they must fulfill to achieve those goals. Potential recruits then decide whether they wish to enter the Navy as an enlisted serviceman or if they aspire to and qualify for officer career tracks. After potential recruits submit their applications, they go to a Military Entrance Processing Station before heading to Boot Camp or officer training courses.
