More than 300 codes and standards help to minimize the risk of fire. The National Fire Protection Association was founded in 1896. It's a nonprofit organization that provides codes, standards, training and research to all of its members.
The codes and standards developed by the National Fire Protection Association are designed to help minimize the risk of fire by setting up criteria to use when designing and constructing a building. The National Fire Protection Agency also works with the public to provide fire safety education, including establishing Fire Prevention Week, which occurs in October of each year. Other programs include Remember When, which is a program that helps address the leading cause of injuries and death among the elderly, and Learn Not to Burn, a program that teaches the public the leading causes of injuries and deaths among children.Learn more about Government & Politics
