Its primary mission is to enable the Naval fleet and provide operational support for tenant commands. As of 2015, the base includes over 1,000 buildings situated across approximately 1,600 acres. Current tenants include the Recruit Training Command, which is the Navy’s sole basic training facility; Training Support Center, which is the Navy’s primary training command; and the Navy Recruiting District Chicago.
