Individuals with Medi-Cal coverage receive access to wellness care, outpatient services, emergency care, mental health care, prescription medications, hospitalization, physical therapy and laboratory services. Medi-Cal also covers maternity care and health, oral and vision care for children. Adults and children also receive Denti-Cal which provides access to dental care including exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings and root canals.

Some Medi-Cal participants who qualify for full benefits also receive one routine vision exam every 24 months. Eyeglasses are only covered for participants living in a nursing home and children under the age of 21. Contact lenses are only covered if glasses cannot be used for a medical reason, as stated by the California Department of Health Care Services.
