The 2014 'open carry' list included 44 states -13 of which require a permit- according to the Wall Street Journal. The six states banning open carry altogether include California, Florida, Illinois, New York, South Carolina and Texas.
States requiring a permit to carry firearms in plain view include Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Utah, states the Wall Street Journal.
Despite petitions from gun-control groups to ban firearms, on their premises, Kroger announced it would endorse gun laws in the 34 states it operates. While carrying a concealed weapon is legal in all states, retailers Chipotle, Starbucks and Target have recently asked patrons to not bring firearms in their stores.
