How Many Ships Does the U.S. Navy Have?

The United States Navy has about 430 ships, including those that are currently active, being built or on reserve. This tally of ships consists of several different types, including aircraft carriers, destroyers, submarines, frigates, littoral combat ships, cruisers and amphibious assault ships.

The ships counted on the list include commissioned ships, those that have almost been completed, those that are being tested but have not been commissioned yet, leased ships and support ships. Ships that are just starting to be built are not included. By far the largest navy in the world, the U.S. Navy is bigger than the next 13 largest navies put together.
