The various candidates for the congress seats are all running for the House of Representatives where the terms are for two years. The Senate seats are only elected every six years. The candidates all come from a wide variety of jobs and backgrounds. Earl Ray Tomblin is the current West Virginia Governor, which gives him quite a bit of political and policy experience for the job in Washington. Mike Manypenny is an ex-state delegate and agriculture consultant. Ken Reed is a businessman who owns a pharmacy. Marc Savitt is a mortgage broker who is also a previous candidate. Nancy Guthrie is a current state delegate as of 2015.
Candidates in the major parties, Republican and Democrat, have until January of the election year to officially file their intentions to run. Third parties and independent candidates have until August of the election year and write in candidates can enter up until September.
