As of 2014, the largest gang in Florida is the Latin Kings. The gang began spreading to Florida in the 1990s and have about 1,000 members in Florida's prison system in 2014. However, it is estimated that they have about 900 hundred more members outside of prison.
Most Latin King affiliates identify with their roots from Chicago. However, this is not the case with Florida's Latin Kings. They identify as a separate entity. As the gang membership continues to grow, authorities continue to raise their units to deal with the issue. In Orange County, officials track 143 documented members of the Latin Kings as of 2014. The Orange County Sheriff's office runs one of the largest gang tracking units in Florida.
