Kadena Air Force Base is located in Okinawa, Japan. It is the largest AFB in the Pacific region and is home to the 18th Wing, the largest Air Force combat air wing. The base is known as the "Keystone of the Pacific" due to its strategic location.
More than 7,500 military members are based at Kadena, and the population includes more than 20,000 individuals including active duty military, Department of Defense civilians, families, Japanese civilian workers and contractors. The main base covers 4,930 acres and has two parallel runways. Kadena AFB contributes greatly to Okinawa's economy, with an estimated $700 million annual impact as of 2008.
