To join the Veterans of Foreign Wars, apply online or contact a local VFW post. Post locations within the United States are available online and may be searched by city, state or ZIP code. To be eligible for membership, one must meet a list of specific criteria.
To be eligible to join the VFW, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen who has served honorably in an overseas conflict, who has received a campaign medal for overseas service, who served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea, or who received hostile fire or imminent danger pay.
There are three types of VFW membership: annual, life, and legacy life memberships. Benefits include retail discounts at participating retailers; travel, medical, and financial services discounts; and even discounts on haircuts.
Additional benefits include educational scholarships and a separation of duties program. All members receive the VFW Magazine as part of membership. The magazine includes information about reunions, the latest government news concerning veterans, and inspirational and history related articles.
