Women can join the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars by completing an application on the organization's website. Each member has to pay a yearly membership fee of $20 or a lifetime membership fee determined by the member's age.
Women may join local auxiliaries in their state or the national auxiliary. To join the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, the prospective member must visit LadiesAuxVFW.org and click on the Join Now button on the homepage. On the membership application page, she must fill in her name, address, street address, city and state. She also states whether she is a U.S. citizen.
Other personal information that she provides on this form include her phone number, her email address, her date of birth, her relationship to a veteran, and the veteran's name and post. She also provides names of campaign ribbons or medals that the veteran received. Other information on the veteran include the foreign service start and end date and the foreign service locations.
On the final section of the application form, the prospective member chooses whether to pay the annual fee or the life membership fee based on her age. The life membership fee varies between $50 and $220 as of 2015. She then provides her payment details and attaches her proof of eligibility before submitting her application.
Organizers founded the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in 1914 for women to support veterans, and it grew to become one of the nation's largest military service and support organizations. In late 2015, the organization opened its membership to men for the first time and changed its name to Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. During the 2014-2015 program year, VFW Auxiliary members provided $4.6 million to veterans, active-duty military and their families.
