Inova Fairfax Hospital is the flagship hospital of the Inova hospital network with 833 beds, as of 2015. It serves Washington, D.C. and the surrounding metro area. The hospital houses many of the Inova health care system's most important programs, including the Inova Women's Hospital, Inova Children's Hospital, Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, Northern Virginia's only Level 1 Trauma Center and a robust organ transplant program. The hospital has received national and international awards for the outstanding services it provides.
The Inova Women's Hospital is the fifth most highly sought after obstetric program in the United States and features a level IV NICU. The Inova Children's Hospital is an award-winning, 186-bed, full-service hospital specializing in the health care of infants, children and adolescents. Inova Fairfax Hospital has been certified as a level 1 Trauma Center for more than 33 years by the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is one of only 73 such facilities nationally recognized by the American College of Surgeons. The campus acts as a teaching facility, housing seven residency programs and four fellowships in addition to partnerships with Georgetown and George Washington Universities and VCU School of Medicine. Nursing and pharmaceutical programs are also supported.
U.S. News and World Report named Inova Fairfax Hospital as the best hospital in the Washington D.C. area four years in a row, while also certifying it as the third best facility in Virginia and one of the best in northern Virginia. U.S. News ranks the facility nationally in both gynecology and neonatology, and labels it "high performing" in nine specialties including urology, pulmonology, cancer, cardiology and geriatrics. Becker's Hospital Review ranked the facility as one of the 100 best neurosurgery and spine programs in the country in 2014.
