The State of Florida maintains a website devoted to senior services through the Department of Elder Affairs. Some services offered include elder abuse prevention, nutritional programs and long-term care services. The State of Florida also provides information regarding home care and hospice care for the elderly.
The State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs also offers information regarding The Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAP). This program assists low-income households with at least one person age 60 or older when experiencing home energy emergencies. Those that qualify for this program receive vouchers to purchase fans, portable heaters and blankets. The program may also help individuals pay for repairs to existing cooling or heating equipment or help pay for reconnection fees. Additional funds may also be available from the U.S. government during seasonal emergencies.
The Department of Elder Affairs also offers programs for families dealing with Alzheimer's Disease, a caregiver support program and a senior companion program. The website offers update reports and information on senior centers located throughout Florida and different volunteer opportunities available for senior citizens. Seniors interested in applying for certain benefits may do so through the online portal at the Department of Elder Affairs.
