Farahani first fled Iran in 2009 after speaking out in favor of the Green Movement, a protest movement that arose in the wake of the possibly fraudulent re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president. Farahani continued to speak in support of the movement while living in France and was contacted by the Iranian government and told not to return. She had previously been banned from working by the government for not wearing a headscarf at the New York premiere of the film "Body of Lies," in which she had a major role.
Farahani effectively burned all bridges with her former country by baring her right breast in the 2012 film "Si Tu Mers, Je Te Tue." She also took part in a nude photo shoot in February 2015 for the French magazine "Egoiste." Under the very strict morality laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran, any nudity on film is potentially punishable by exile or even death. It is unlikely that Farahani will ever return to her home country unless there is major governmental reform.Learn more about Politics
