Some of the most common Flexible Spending Account eligible expenses include health insurance premiums and copays, prescription medications, dental treatments, eye examinations and eyeglasses, nursing home care, transportation to medical appointments, psychiatric care and psychological counseling. Expenses for over-the-counter medicines are FSA eligible with a doctor's prescription.
Medical supplies such as bandages, crutches, blood pressure monitors, wheelchairs and sunscreen are FSA eligible even without a prescription. Cosmetic surgery and health club expenses are not FSA eligible in any circumstance.
IRS Publication 502 lists the general guidelines for what expenses are FSA eligible. Insurance companies and medical supply retailers may have staff available to assist with questions about FSA eligibility.
