Crist was born on July 24 1956, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. His political career began in 1993 when he won election to the Florida Senate. After a failed U.S. Senate bid in 1998, Governor Jeb Bush appointed Crist to the position of Deputy Secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. In 2001, Crist was elected to the office of Education Commissioner of Florida, serving until 2003 when he was elected as Florida Attorney General. As of 2015, Crist is a practicing lawyer with the personal injury law firm of Morgan & Morgan.
